# Review and rewrite copy with Copy Chief

> Review an existing draft, turn the critique into targeted revisions, and continue from the same context.

## What this article shows you

Use Copy Chief when you already have copy and need a critique, a rewrite, or
both. You will give StefanBrain the draft and its context, inspect the report,
then request a focused revision.

<Tip>
  You normally do not need to select a tool. Describe the complete review and
  let StefanBrain choose the useful capabilities. Select **Copy Chief** when
  you want that review path for the current copy request. If **Keep tool
  selected** is on, the selection stays active until you change it, but
  unrelated messages do not start a review.
</Tip>

## How Copy Chief fits into your workflow

Copy Chief works best as a review pass on an existing asset. Give it the draft,
the business context that changes the judgment, and the decision you need from
the report.

| Ask for | Use it when | Useful result |
| - | - | - |
| A critique | You want diagnosis before changing the draft. | A prioritized review with issues and next actions. |
| A rewrite | You already know what should change. | Revised copy that follows your constraints. |
| A critique and rewrite | You need both the reasoning and an updated draft. | A review followed by one or more revisions. |

Copy Chief supports common direct-response assets, including ads, video sales
letters, advertorials, quiz funnels, landing pages, product pages, and
promotional emails.

You can start in two places:

| Start in | Best for | Result handoff |
| - | - | - |
| **Chat** | Copy you paste, attach, or establish in the conversation. | The finished report opens as a Chat result you can copy, download, and refine. |
| **Creative Strategist** | A selected static or video ad with connected source evidence. | The report stays with the ad and offers **Continue in chat** for follow-up work. |

<Note>
  Copy Chief does not fetch page copy by itself. If your draft lives at a
  public URL or in a document, let StefanBrain extract it first. Paste or
  upload the text when the source cannot be read reliably.
</Note>

## What you will do

1. Choose the exact draft and review goal.
2. Add the audience, offer, traffic source, and facts that matter.
3. Run the review once and inspect the completed report.
4. Request a targeted revision in the same Chat.
5. Copy or download the approved result.

## Before you start

Prepare:

* The exact draft you want reviewed.
* The asset type and where it will appear.
* The intended reader and traffic source, when they affect the copy.
* The offer facts, approved claims, and constraints the revision must respect.
* The deliverable you want, such as a critique, one rewrite, or three headline
  options.

Creative Strategist also requires a connected source, selected account, and
selected ad.

## Follow along from Chat

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a Chat from the home screen">
    Open StefanBrain and start a Chat. You can describe the review naturally
    and let StefanBrain choose the workflow.

    If you want to choose the review path yourself, select **Tools**, then
    **Copy Chief**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the draft and its context">
    Paste the copy, attach the document, or reference the exact draft already
    established in this Chat. Type `@` and choose a Product when its saved
    context should inform the review.

    Use a request that names the job and the boundaries:

    ```text theme={"system"}
    Review this three-minute UGC script for cold paid social traffic.
    The intended reader is [audience]. The offer is [offer].
    Preserve [approved facts, hook, offer, or CTA].
    First identify the three issues that matter most. Then rewrite only the sections that need work.
    Do not add product claims or proof that are not in the draft or Product context.
    [Paste the draft here.]
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Extract a linked draft before reviewing it">
    If the copy lives at a public URL, establish the source in Chat before the
    Copy Chief request:

    ```text theme={"system"}
    Read this public landing page and extract its copy: [URL].
    Do not critique it yet. Organize the text by section and tell me if any part of the page could not be read.
    ```

    Review the extracted text. Then ask Copy Chief to use that version as the
    draft.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send the review once">
    Send the request. A selected Copy Chief run shows **Running Copy Chief**
    while it works. The report can take a few minutes.

    Keep the same Chat open or return to it later. Do not submit the same draft
    again while the first run is active.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the report against your brief">
    Confirm that the report reviewed the correct asset, audience, offer, and
    constraints. A report can include a grade, prioritized issues, rewrites,
    and action items.

    Treat the grade as a diagnostic summary, not a performance result. Check
    every revised fact and claim against your approved source material.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn the critique into a focused revision">
    Continue in the same Chat so the follow-up can use the draft and review:

    ```text theme={"system"}
    Apply the Copy Chief review to this draft.
    Keep [the hook, offer, structure, or CTA] unchanged.
    Rewrite [the exact sections] to address [the named issues].
    Preserve every approved product fact and do not add new claims.
    Return one revised draft and a short list of what changed.
    ```

    Say what to keep, what to change, and what the finished deliverable should
    be. Avoid a vague follow-up such as “make it better.”
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy or download the result">
    Use **Copy markdown** to put the report on your clipboard. Open the
    Download menu to export a Word document, Markdown file, or plain-text file.
    Choose **PDF** to open the print flow and save the report as a PDF.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Start from Creative Strategist

Use this path when the copy belongs to an ad you are already reviewing.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the ad">
    Open **Creative Strategist**, choose the source and account, then select
    the ad you want to review.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run CopyChief">
    Select **CopyChief** in the ad actions. The result appears in the
    **CopyChief Ad** card when the report is ready.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the next handoff">
    Select **Continue in chat** to ask questions or request a targeted rewrite.

    For a static ad, **Create variations** can appear when the report includes
    actionable variation guidance. That action is not shown for video reviews.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If a video report says newer details may be available, run CopyChief again
after its video evidence is ready.

## Make the result useful

* Review first when you are unsure what should change.
* Preserve specific working elements instead of requesting a full rewrite by
  default.
* Give each revision one clear job, such as changing the opening or simplifying
  one explanation.
* Keep approved facts and claims in the prompt. Check that the revision does
  not introduce new ones.
* Choose the strongest revision and test it against the current version.

A useful sequence is to choose the draft, request a critique, then ask for a
rewrite based on the issues you accept. This keeps the revision tied to the
diagnosis and gives you a clear point to preserve working elements.

## Common mistakes and troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The report reviewed the wrong copy">
    Identify the exact pasted draft, attachment, or extracted page text. Remove
    competing versions from the request and run the review again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The public page could not be read">
    Paste the copy directly, attach an export, or provide a document StefanBrain
    can access. Do not assume the missing sections were reviewed.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The feedback is too generic">
    Add the intended reader, traffic source, offer, asset type, and decision you
    need. Ask for a small number of prioritized issues.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The rewrite changed an approved fact">
    Name the incorrect change and restate the fact that must remain. Ask for a
    new revision that preserves the rest of the accepted draft.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Copy Chief is still running">
    Return to the same Chat and let the active run finish. Do not send the same
    review again unless the first run has failed.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Create variations is missing in Creative Strategist">
    The action appears only for supported static reviews with actionable
    variation guidance. Use **Continue in chat** when you need another revision
    or the report covers a video.
